An agreement between Russia and Mexico on cooperation in the exploration and use of outer space for peaceful purposes does not affect the topics related to the Russian satellite navigation system GLONASS, said the Foreign Ministry of Mexico.
"The signed document does not envisage actions related to the GLONASS system, nor is there any projection that this could be included in the near future," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement posted on the government website.
The agreement is reportedly in the process of being approved. So far it has not been sent to the Senate for consideration.
Earlier it became known that Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law ratifying an intergovernmental agreement with Mexico on cooperation in the exploration and use of outer space for peaceful purposes. The document was signed on September 28, 2021. As noted, it provides, inter alia, for the installation of GLONASS stations on Mexican territory. The agreement establishes a legal framework for developing Russian-Mexican cooperation in this area and for the practical application of space systems and technology for peaceful purposes.
