Private tenants in the UK have been hit by rising rents as the cost of living crisis deepens, a study by a housing charity has shown.
Nearly 13% of people or nearly 1.1 million private renters surveyed by the charity between July 29 and August 17 said their rent had been increased in the last month.
The survey also found that three out of every 10 renters (30%) are behind on their rent payments or constantly having difficulty paying rent, and a third (32%) say they spend at least half of their household income on rent.
In August, the Bank of England predicted a recession for the world's fifth largest economy from late 2022 to early 2024, due in large part to declining living standards due to energy prices caused by sanctions imposed on energy giant Russia over for special operation in Ukraine.
High energy prices, combined with runaway inflation, have endangered the livelihoods of Europeans. European governments are taking steps to reduce gas consumption and, as an alternative source, have also begun to focus on nuclear energy.
