Apple's former senior director of corporate law and security has pleaded guilty to insider trading after being indicted in 2019, in what prosecutors called a five-year scheme to profit off of quarterly earnings announcements.
Gene Levoff, who's been with Apple since 2008 and moved into his position as senior director of corporate law from 2013 - 2018, made the trades in question between 2011 and 2016 while abusing his position as corporate secretary, head of corporate law and co-chair of a committee that reviewed drafts of Apple's results, according to the indictment.
After initially fighting the charges, Levoff admitted to using nonpublic information about Apple's financials in order to trade company stock, resulting in $604,000 of illegal gains on more than $14 million of trades, according to CNBC.
Specifically, when Levoff learned that Apple was about to have a strong quarter, he would purchase large quantities of stock which would then be sold into the subsequent pop.
Prosecutors said Levoff ignored the quarterly "blackout periods" that barred trading before Apple's results were released, as well as the company's broader insider trading policy -- which he was responsible for enforcing. -CNBC
"Gene Levoff betrayed the trust of one of the world's largest tech companies for his own financial gain," said First Assistant U.S. Attorney Vikas Khanna in New Jersey in a statement. The case was filed in New Jersey because servers which were used to execute the trades were located there.
As 9to5Mac notes, "this case is incredibly ironic: one of Levoff's responsibilities at Apple included enforcing the company's insider trading policy. In fact, he even informed Apple employees about a trading blackout period for AAPL stock, while also buying and selling the stock himself."
Lovoff was fired in September, 2018, five months before he was criminally charged.
The indictment carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, which we're guessing Levoff just cut a deal to avoid. His sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 10. The SEC has filed related civil charges.

For example, we personally exposed a 30-year-old fraud inflicted upon the State of California and San Mateo County Superior Court, by Juana Schurman, a lawyer working for Oracle Corporation, in civil case 393104.
Virtually every single syllable Oracle employees and lawyers uttered inside or outside of a courtroom pertaining to this matter has been shown to be a premeditated lie, often uttered under oath.
Information in the California State Bar's own records suggests that this lawyer representing Oracle may be a member of a family where two other relatives with the same surname have "resigned".
The California State Bar would say that there is no evidence that these two lawyers did anything wrong.
But we would suggest that the situation is indistinguishable from a totally different scenario where these lawyers did do something wrong, but, because of their connections, they were allowed to "resign", and that, due to the lack of decisive action by the California State Bar, the available facts support both narratives - and that this indistinguishability is, perhaps, premeditated and deliberate obfuscation on the part of the California State Bar, and a grotesque disservice to the public.
If we are correct, the Bar, itself, should be disbarred.
If our interpretation of facts is correct, then the California State Bar conspired to conceal these lawyers' wrongdoing from the public by accepting, perhaps even soliciting, a "resignation" instead of engaging in a "prosecution" - not once, but twice, and now they are ducking and dodging and winking and blinking over the idea of prosecuting the third family member - who is still practicing law.
The asshole who was in charge of Oracle Corporation while all this was going down just gang-raped the State of Hawaii and, via stealthy means, acquired ownership and control of an entire island, with the help of a bunch of obviously Jewish co-conspirators. Unless we are terribly mistaken, Hawaii is going to look like Palestine, in fifty years.

(Incidentally, a casual audit of lawsuits against Oracle Corporation by employees, in San Mateo County alone, suggests that a statistically anomalous number of lawyers, after filing lawsuits for their clients against Oracle Corporation, then, seeing their cases dismissed, subsequently were stripped of their licenses to practice law. If we are correct, the California State Bar has been not just compromised, but weaponized, too. This topic requires further analysis.)
We are pretty sure that if this matter involved a World War II painting "stolen" from somebody's grandmother's grandmother after she freely exercised her white privilege and sold it, to get money to flee to the United States and escape the threat of war, there would be a long line of lawyers fighting with each other and California would be right in line, eager to gang up on some poor European art dealer who just wants to make a living. But because it's Oracle - and Oracle has dirt on everyone as a direct consequence of being in the database business - Oracle gets to walk, free - over, and over, and over, and over.
This thing with Apple is just a morality play to make it look like the Securities & Exchange Commission cares. They do, finally, but only because they are about to be rendered obsolete by blockchain-based technologies. The SEC has been overseeing the systemic looting of the American economy, by insiders, for 40 years, and done nothing. It's too late now, morons. The game is almost over.
That is why we think it is time to dissolve our current government and form a new government - along with a new economy. Perhaps several new governments, governing smaller, more manageable regions. Our current government is huge, unmanageable, and in the hands of criminals, liars, thieves and bunglers.
We think we need to bring back the death penalty. People like Larry Ellison have no respect for the law - they can and do buy lawyers, judges, and legislators, the same way we buy milk and cookies. Everyone else sees Larry Ellison and his gang doing whatever they want, and they copy him, and break the law, as it is obviously the path to success. This is not sustainable behavior. It needs to end.
One more thing: if you became curious about who this 'Raymond Ocampo' fellow was, and you looked him up on the Internet, and saw he was a "retired Filipino-American luger" and wondered what a "retired Filipino-American luger" has to do with Oracle Corporation, or why a "retired Filipino-American luger" needs a Wikipedia page, or how many other "retired Filipino-American lugers" have their own Wikipedia page ... well, you are looking at the power of bribery and influence peddling, because someone has clearly gone to an enormous amount of work to scrub the Internet of all information related to Raymond Ocampo's career as top dog for Oracle's Legal Department and particularly all information related to Raymond Ocampo's malicious criminal prosecution of Adelyn Lee, after she, Larry Ellison's administrative assistant, stopped letting Larry Ellison rape her, and filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against him - like Harvey Weinstein, thirty years later ... but much, much worse.

What does Raymond Ocampo feel so guilty about, that he would be in denial about his entire legal career? Raymond Ocampo left Oracle Corporation not long after Adelyn Lee's case was concluded, we think.
We have often wondered what happened to Adelyn Lee after she was sentenced to two years, for supposed perjury. Was Adelyn Lee murdered in prison? That would explain Raymond Ocampo's guilty conscience very nicely.
It's never been clear to us why the self-proclaimed feminists of Oracle Corporation did not support Adelyn Lee. Our sense is this was because 95% of the employees at Oracle Corporation were Jewish, and their first loyalty was to Larry Ellison, a fellow member of the mob, rather than to their sister, Adelyn Lee, the shiksa, the resented, who had submitted to legalized rape in response to an unfair power dynamic, but who had also beaten them into Larry's bed. Jealous, the "sisterhood" at Oracle abandoned Adelyn Lee.
It's never been clear to us how a "retired Filipino-American luger" ended up being chief lawyer for Oracle Corporation or how a Filipino living in a tropical jungle even ended up knowing what a 'luge' was, unless said Filipino-American spent a lot of vacation time in the Swiss Alps, leaving us to suspect that "Filipino-American" is really a dogwhistle for "Filipino-Jewish" - just sayin'.
Wikipedia is really useful for scientific research but not so useful where people or events are concerned. Wikipedia really ought to do something about that. This is naked corruption of objective reality, right in front of everyone's eyes, and nobody wants to see it. This is felonious conduct. It should be punished.
Perhaps the authorities should consider amputating known liars' fingertips. Cutting off one fingertip will definitely get most lawyers' full attention. If not, well, there are seven other fingertips.
Of course, it will only be a matter of time until evil lawyers carry out regulatory capture of this authority and start using it to amputate the fingertips of auditors. So perhaps this is not a solution, either.
